Sunrisers Hyderabad Through to IPL 2024 Final, Can Pat Cummins Lead Them to Victory?
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has secured a spot in the final of IPL 2024 after defeating Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 36 runs in Qualifier 2. This will be their third appearance in the IPL final, with their previous one being in 2016 when they clinched the title. Led by new skipper Pat Cummins, SRH is determined to equal Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) trophy count this year.
SRH had a challenging start to their IPL 2024 campaign as they faced KKR in their first match and narrowly lost by four runs. However, they quickly bounced back in their next game by setting a record for the highest team total in IPL history, scoring 277/3 against Mumbai Indians. This impressive performance was powered by Heinrich Klassen, Abhishek Sharma, and Travis Head.
SRH continued their winning streak by defeating Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Gujarat Titans (GT), and Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their next matches. Nitish Kumar Reddy emerged as the hero in the close victory against PBKS, contributing with both the bat and ball.
The team's dominance was further showcased in their match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), where they posted the highest-ever total in T20 cricket history with 287 runs. Travis Head's century off just 39 balls and contributions from Aiden Markam and Abdul Samad ensured a comfortable victory.
SRH maintained their winning momentum by defeating Delhi Capitals (DC) with a big margin of 67 runs. Once again, the team displayed their batting prowess by amassing 266/7, with Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Shahbaz Ahmed making significant contributions.
However, SRH faced a setback in their next match against RCB, as they failed to chase down the target of 200+. The team also struggled against CSK, conceding 212/3 and suffering a 78-run defeat.
Despite these challenges, SRH managed to secure a one-run victory over RR in a thrilling encounter. Bhuvneshwar Kumar's final delivery dismissal sealed the win for the team.
In their subsequent match against Mumbai Indians (MI), SRH faced a seven-wicket defeat as Suryakumar Yadav's century guided MI to victory. This loss motivated the team to produce a remarkable performance against Lucknow Super Giants, where they chased down 166 in just 9.4 overs with an unbeaten opening partnership between Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma.
SRH secured a top-two finish in the league stages by defeating PBKS and subsequently faced KKR in Qualifier 1. Unfortunately, KKR proved to be too strong for SRH as they limited them to 159 and then chased down the target in just 13.4 overs.
However, SRH had another chance to secure a spot in the final in Qualifier 2 against RR. They made a challenging total of 175/9, and their spinners Shahbaz Ahmed and Abhishek Sharma performed exceptionally well to restrict RR to 139/7, ultimately securing their place in the final.
With Pat Cummins leading the team and a strong lineup of talented players, SRH is determined to win their second IPL title. The final against KKR promises to be an exciting clash between two formidable teams vying for the championship.
